Vassilis is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Organisation for Quality Assurance in Health (ODIPY S.A.) and lecturer of Quality Improvement, Healthcare & Pharmaceutical Policy at SDA Bocconi in Milan.
Prior to joining ODIPY, Vassilis was the Healthcare & Life Sciences Strategy (LSHC) Consulting Lead for Deloitte in Greece, member of Deloitte’s LSHC leadership team in Europe and accredited representative Partner for Deloitte Life Sciences in Europe. During his spell at Deloitte, he successfully led large scale programs including the cooperation with the European and Greek pharma industry in the development of a sustainable pharmaceutical policy in Greece and the operational transformation of the largest private group of hospitals in Greece. Vassilis has also served in senior roles in the UK’s NHS (in London and across England) for several years where he designed and led hospital acquisitions and large-scale operational transformations. Indicatively he led operationally the transformation of the women and children services including clinical pathways redesign and introduction of digital tools as well as the redesign of the Outpatient services across London including the connection between Primary Care and Secondary Care services. In addition, Vassilis has consulted various Pharmaceutical Firms in Global Pricing & Strategy issues.
Vassilis holds a master’s degree on International Healthcare Management, Economics and Policy (MIHMEP) from SDA Bocconi, an MBA from the International Institute of Management and an MSc in Telemedicine & E-Health Systems from Brunel University.
Born in 1954, he has been working as a surgeon at the Catholic University Hospital (Rome, Italy) since 1980. He has been interested in the area of venous access for parenteral nutrition since the early 80’s. From 1990 on, he has focused most of his clinical and scientific activity upon central venous access devices, becoming one of the leading national experts in this area. In 1998 he founded the Italian Group for Long Term Venous Access (GAVeCeLT) and since 2000, he organizes and coordinates all the educational and scientific activities of this group. In 2005, he was one of the founding members of the European Vascular Access Network (EVAN). At present, he is Professor of Surgery at the Catholic University, where he is Clinical Coordinator for the Vascular Access Service. He is an active member of several scientific societies, including ESPEN, AVA and the WoCoVA Foundation.
In 2009, he received the Suzanne Herbst Award for Excellence in Vascular Access.

Evan Alexandrou is a newly appointed Clinical Associate Professor with the School of Nursing at the University of Wollongong as well as a Clinical Nurse Consultant in the Intensive Care Unit at Liverpool Hospital where he coordinates the central venous access service.
Evan is involved in clinical education at an undergraduate and postgraduate level for Nursing and Medical training programs and is conjoint senior lecturer with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of New South Wales. Evan is also an adjunct Associate Professor with the AVATAR Group based at Griffith University in Queensland.
Amit Bahl, MD MPH is a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician with subspecialty expertise in emergency ultrasound. He is the Division Head of Emergency Ultrasound, Program Director of the Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship program, and serves as Medical Director for the inpatient Bedside Vascular Access Team at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak in Southeastern Michigan where he has worked for the past 14 years. His academic appointment is Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. Dr. Bahl is well regarded for his expertise, clinical care, and research contributions in the fields of point-of-care ultrasound and vascular access. He is the recipient of several foundation and industry grants for research and has authored numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts in high impact medical journals. Amy is a vascular access specialist with over 25 years of critical care and device insertion experience. She is a past winner of the 2016 Suzanne Levere Herbst award for excellence in Vascular Access. Amy completed her doctoral research that evidenced that vascular access specialists should be available in all hospitals. Amy believes that all patients deserve safe and effective vascular access options which include ultrasound for every patient assessment and device insertion. Her current research efforts are focused on arterial access. Amy is the current President for the AVA Foundation for Patient Safety.

Andrew is a Nurse Consultant for IV therapy and Vascular Access and leads a team of infusion nurses, vascular access nurses and home IV therapy nurses as part of an infusion and vascular access service unit. Andrew is a non-medical prescriber and regularly inserts implanted PORTS, Tunnelled catheters and PICCs using up to date technology and techniques.
Nationally Andrew is the Chair of the National Infusion & Vascular Access Society (NIVAS) of the UK, an organisation that aims to represent IV therapy and vascular access practice within the UK to ensure that national policy and guidelines align with best practice and are evidence based. Andrew is also a member of the national electronic medicines guide steering group (MEDUSA) and is recognised as a medical technology principle expert for the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) and most recently as a clinical expert advisor for The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). More recently Andrew has joined the WoCoVA global committee representing the UK.

Daniele Guerino Biasucci completed his medical degree and residency in Anesthesiology, Resuscitation and Intensive Care Medicine at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Rome, Italy. He has special research interests in vascular access, ultrasound in critical care and emergency medicine, pediatric critical care, cerebral microcirculation and neurocritical care. He has been currently appointed as Assistant Professor of Critical Care Medicine at the ‘Tor Vergata’ University in Rome, Italy. As a member of the taskforce of the European Society of Anaesthesiology (ESA) for PERSEUS guidelines, Dr. Biasucci is one of the main authors of ESA guidelines on ultrasound guidance for vascular access both in adults and children. He is also author and co-author of more than 60 published papers and he has obtained the Italian National Qualification as Associate Professor in Intensive Care Medicine and Anesthesiology. He has participated in more than 40 national and international meetings as an invited lecturer to speak about several aspects of pleural and lung ultrasound, ultrasound life support in cardiac arrest, ultrasound and vascular access devices.
Andrew Bodenham has practiced as a consultant in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine in Leeds UK for over 30 years. In addition he has provided vascular access services for many specialities particularly oncology. He has a particular interest in interventional procedures and spends time as an expert witness in civil, coroners and criminal courts in UK.
Dr. Laure Bonnet is a french anesthesiologist. She practices at the Princess Grace Hospital of Monaco since 2011. She is a member of the Sustainable Development Committee of the French Society of Intensive Care Anaesthesia (SFAR) since 2019. She is currently the secretary of this commitee since 2021. She is a member of the pedagogical committee and a teacher of the university degree « Sustainable Development in Health” of the Paris Sorbonne University 2020/2021. Christian Dupont has been a nurse coordinator in the pulmonary department at Cochin University Hospital (Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris) for more than 20 years. During the 1990s, he worked in Hematology, inpatient AIDS care, Oncology and Surgery, over a ten year period. He has been involved in the daily management of peripheral catheters, PICCs and Ports for patients suffering from Cystic Fibrosis, bronchiectasis and lung cancer who are treated at home and in hospital. His daily tasks also include clinical research and training hospital nurses, homecare nurses and nursing students. Emanuele Iacobone is an intensivist and he is the head of the Intensive Care Unit of Macerata Hospital (Italy). For more than 10 years, he has been dealing with vascular access devices, he has published several studies on this topic, mostly focused on the use of ultrasound during the positioning of vascula accesses. He cooperates with GAVeCeLT (Gruppo Accessi Venosi Centrali a Lungo Termine) and recently he is part of the working group for the development of the ECHOTIP protocol.
Elias Kehagias, MD, PhD, EBIR, FCIRSE, is an Interventional Radiologist working as an Assistant professor of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, at the University of Crete Medical School and at the Interventional Radiology Unit in Heraklion University Hospital, Heraklion, Crete, Greece. Dr. Kehagias is a graduate of the University of Patras Medical School. His main areas of expertise are peripheral vascular interventions (diagnostic arterial and venous angiographies PTA and stenting, EVAR, emergency and elective embolization, thrombectomy and central venous access), and non-vascular interventions (PTCD, ureteral stenting, image guided ablation, drainage and biopsies). On the field of Vascular Access he has published two technique modifications, the “L-shaped tunnelling technique” for port placement in 2016, and the “Arm-to-Chest Tunneling technique” for arm placement of implantable ports or central catheters, in 2019.
Kathy Kokotis has been in vascular access since 1987. She has published numerous papers on economics and vascular access as well as the development of vascular access programs. Recently she served on the INS vesicant infusate task force that created a list of vesicant infusates and a published paper. Kathy was a key team member in creating the Infusate Consideration Companion a non branded compendium looking at the complications of 130 commonly used infusates.
Professor Evangelos Konstantinou (52, married and father of three) is currently a Professor of Nurse Anesthesiology and Vascular Access at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He is the Head of Vascular Access Laboratory in National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and the Head of Vascular Access Laboratory in Evgenidion University Hospital. He has more than 90 publications in indexed journals. He has presented his work in more than 250 National and International conferences. For the last years he has been the Head of the Vascular Access Laboratory, School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Nursing at Agioi Anargiroi Oncology Hospital in Athens, Greece. In the Unit, he deals with patients that require the placement of Vascular Access devices, such as Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICCs), Picc Ports, Chest Ports, Chronic Dialysis catheters, Acute Dialysis catheters and Centrally Inserted Central Catheters (CICCs), always under real time ultrasound guidance, using the ECG method. Dr. Antonio La Greca was born in Rome in 1967. He is an Emergency and Trauma Surgeon at the University Hospital ”A. Gemelli” in Rome (Italy), where directs the Visceral Trauma Unit and cohordinates the Interdepartmental Central Venous Access Centre. After getting his medical degree in 1993, he soon started working in the field of general surgery and, along with an early experience in Surgical Oncology, he started dealing with vascular access in 2000, strongly co-operating with oncological specialists (solid tumors and hematology) as well as nutritional care-givers and operators from different medical, surgical and intensive care specialties. Nowadays, alongside with his main activity as a senior staff in the local trauma and emergency surgery team, he is a co-founding and leading part of the “A. Gemelli” Hospital Vascular Team. He brings wide experience in point of care ultrasound and ultrasound guidance for invasive procedures. In the last ten years, he has become part of the faculty in multiple training programs dealing with ultrasound in collaboration with the European Society of Trauma and Emergency Surgery (ESTES), and has co-developed multiple training programs for vascular access (with a special research and didactic focus on ultrasound guidance and intracavitary ECG guidance) within the activity of the Italian Working Group for Vascular Access (GAVeCeLT). Massimo Lamperti M.D. is Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and Chair of Anesthesiology Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic, Prof. Lamperti worked as a consultant anesthesiologist and intensivist at National Neurological Institute Besta, Milan, Italy. Born in Milan, Italy in 1974. Since 2016, I lead a multi professional team for the implantation of medium and long term vascular access devices (PICC, ports, PICC-ports, tunneled catheters) for chemotherapy, parenteral nutrition, long term antibiotic therapy, performing more than 2600 procedures per year. I’m also author of several publications and speaker at major national and international congresses.
With 25 years experience in healthcare, Dr. PItts is focused on healthcare strategy and innovation in her role at B. Braun Medical, Inc. She is able to combine her clinical expertise, medical device and leadership experience to identify innovative solutions and programs to solve complex healthcare challenges. Dr. Pitts has spent much of her career as a nurse in pediatrics and vascular access. She developed the pediatric vascular access program at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital (Tampa, Florida) in 2008 and remains a per diem nurse on the team. Prof. Dr. Victor Rosenthal is a Research Associate Professor at the Department of Public Health, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He is a medical doctor specialized in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology. He is the Founder and Chairman of the International Nosocomial Infection Control Consortium (INICC), a non-profit, international research center which focuses on Health Care Associated Infections (HAIs), leading trials with over 2,000 researchers in hundreds of cities in more than 50 Low and Middle Income Countries (LMIC) of Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America. To date, over 90% of the existing scientific publications with primary HAI data from LMICs are those published by INICC. Dr. Ryder’s extensive experience in nursing includes positions as Clinical Director of a Special Care Unit and a Cardiovascular/Thoracic Unit, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Nutrition Support, and Director of Nursing in Home Infusion. Dr. Ryder received a nursing diploma from the Western Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, Pa. and her Bachelor’s (with honors), Master’s (critical care clinical nurse specialist), and Doctoral degrees from the University of California, San Francisco. She was elected as a distinguished Fellow of the National Academies of Practice in 2021. Dr. Ryder is currently an independent collaborative researcher and consultant in medical biofilm related infections. She is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in the use and management of vascular access devices. She is a frequent speaker to state, national, and international conferences and has authored numerous publications. Dr. Ryder has served as President of AVA, chair of APIC’s Scientific Research Council, President of the AVA Foundation for Patient Safety, and represented AVA on the Technical Advisory Panel of the International “Joint Commission CLABSI project”. Giancarlo Scoppettuolo is born in Mirabella Eclano (AV) in 1968 and lives in Rome. Medical Degree in 1992 at Catholic University, Rome. Post Graduation Degree in Infectious Diseases in 1996 at Catholic University, Rome. He is the Head of the Unit for Diagnosis and Treatment of Community-Acquired and Communicable Infectious Diseases of the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli IRCCS, Rome. He teaches at the University Masters “Nursing of Venous Access” and “Medium and Long Term Central Venous Access Devices”, established at Catholic University, Rome. Since many years, he is the Vice-President of GAVeCeLT (Italian Group for Long Term Venous Access). From 2005, he is member of the Multi-professional Vascular Access Team of Gemelli Hospital. As a part of this team, Dr. Scoppettuolo inserts every year hundreds of VAD and is the main consultant for VAD related infections. Dr. Scoppettuolo is also member of the Hospital Committee for prevention of Healthcare associated infections. He has presented papers and lectures in many National and International Conferences on Infectious Diseases, Vascular Access and Infusional Therapy. He is author and coauthor of more than 150 publications (papers, abstracts and book’s chapters).
Timothy R. Spencer is a Critical Care Nurse and Vascular Access Specialist for 32+ years. His clinical background and qualifications are in Intensive & Critical Care Nursing, Vascular Ultrasound, and Advanced Clinical Nutrition. He was the recipient of the 2019 Suzanne LaVere Herbst Award for Excellence in Vascular Access, from the Association for Vascular Access, acknowledging his commitment to Vascular Access. Tim has been influential in progressing the scope of advanced vascular access practices for clinicians globally, with contributions in clinical research and evidence generation, promotion of patient safety, and evidence-based practices. Having pioneered the role of the advanced vascular access specialist in Australia, he is now involved in teaching programs, evidence-based content development, clinical research and providing academic publication mentoring. Tim presents nationally and internationally and is regarded as a clinical expert in his field. The author of numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals for vascular access practice, advancement of technology, Tim continues the process of publication. His commitment to assisting colleagues directly contributes to the enhancement of public and professional awareness of vascular access. Lastly, Tim is an Associate Editor for JVA and is active on several Editorial Review Boards, providing academic review for multiple peer-reviewed and evidence-based journals.
Originally from Gt. Britain Josie Stone currently resides in the United States. She is a Registered Nurse and Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with over 30 years of practice experience in clinical specialty areas including Neonatal Intensive Care, Adult Critical care, Pediatrics, Education and Hospital Administration. She currently has a Clinical Education and Marketing Consulting business and travels extensively speaking on vascular access topics to both National and International audiences. Her role has also included vascular access product development and training.
Josie has been actively involved with vascular access and Infusion organizations throughout her career and is a Certified Registered Nurse of Infusion by the Infusion Nursing Society and Vascular Access Board Certified by the Association of Vascular Access. She is a past President of AVA and currently serves on the Editorial Review Board.
As a founding member of WoCoVA and a member of the Strategic Planning Committee Josie currently Chairs the WoCoVA Global Committee comprised at this time of representatives from 40 countries around the world, all dedicated to the promotion and development of global “best practice” patient centered care, using scientific evidence, international engagement and ongoing collaborative education.
Dr Amanda Ullman is the inaugural Professor and Chair in Paediatric Nursing, conjoint between the University of Queensland and Children’s Health Queensland (Australia), and a 2021 Fulbright Future Scholar. Amanda believes that children should be able to receive medical treatment in hospitals, without harm. Her research focusses on improving the most common invasive procedure in paediatrics – the insertion of an intravenous (IV) catheter. This research has changed practice, reducing infection and pain, and promoting efficient healthcare, for children internationally. This research program has received considerable investment by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) (>$8M), highly-competitive awards, >100 research articles, two mHealth apps, and international ranking as one of the top global experts in central venous catheters.

I completed my PhD research in difficult peripheral intravenous cannulation: decision-based application of point-of-care ultrasound to increase cannulation success, after which I started with the implementation of a vascular access service in my hospital.
Matheus (‘Roland’) van Rens has over twenty years clinical experience in neonatal nursing and holds a MA in Advanced Nursing Prac>ce (Ma ANP), awarded in 2005 from Erasmus University, the Netherlands. He has worked as an advanced neonatal nurse prac>>oner, performing complex vascular access procedure in this pa>ent group, developed and delivered mul>- professional educa>on ac>vi>es and carried out clinical research in Europe and more recently in the Middle East. LaLerly as a Clinical Director of Nursing for the newborn intensive care unit (NICU) at Women’s Wellness and Research Center, Qatar. His research engages with issues around improving neonatal care, most notably around the broad topic of vascular access, a topic on which he has been primary inves>gator for several studies. With his interna>onal research collaborators and co-authors, he has presented at interna>onal conferences and published several referred journal ar>cles concerning neonatal vascular access, infusion therapy and related technology. Matheus (‘Roland’) is a member of Dutch Sigma Theta Tau Interna>onal chapter and has recently been nominated for the pres>gious Janet PeWt award in recogni>on of his contribu>ons to the field of neonatal vascular access care. Currently, he is preparing for his PhD study in the Netherlands.
Mark Weber is a pediatric critical care nurse practitioner in the department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). He has over 20 years of experience in pediatric critical care. He has a strong interest in improving the practice of vascular access and has had an impact on this practice through education and publications. He is the current program manager of vascular access initiatives for the department of critical care medicine at CHOP. Through this role he has trained the faculty and trainees in vascular access procedures throughout the institution. He has published in this arena through peer reviewed papers, research and book chapters. The bulk of his publications have focused on procedural innovation to improve the care of critically ill children.
